Understanding Your Jewish Neighbour: Purim

As Purim approaches, Jewish communities around the world will gather to retell the story of Esther — a story of danger, courage, and unexpected deliverance. But Purim is more than a colourful festival of costumes and celebration. It is a living testimony to God’s hidden faithfulness and a powerful reminder of his covenant love for Israel.

In this latest instalment of our series on understanding the festivals of our neighbours, Dan Sered invites the global church to look more closely at Purim — not only to better understand Jewish life and identity, but also to deepen our own trust in God’s providence. At a time when Jewish–Christian relations can be strained and antisemitism is once again on the rise, this reflection offers both theological insight and practical encouragement for bridge-building, gospel witness, and courageous solidarity.

May this article help us see the unseen hand of God at work in history, inspire us to stand with the Jewish people in love and humility, and equip us to bear faithful witness to the Messiah “for such a time as this.”
